La Cultura Argentina
La Cultura Argentina
And just like that, almost a month has gone by since the last post. How is it already mid-August?! We all are familiar with feeling like time has just passed in a blink of an eye while simultaneously feeling like you've been somewhere forever. This is the point Connor and I are at. We are maintaining our momentum and keeping on, as there is still so much to learn, see, and do here in beautiful South America.
It has been four and a half months since leaving the United States, and we are now off to our third location. Currently on another 10-hour bus ride (these have weirdly become familiar and a great opportunity to catch up on sleep and blog posts!) to San Juan from Córdoba, Argentina. There we are staying on another (yes another) small farm with a young couple around our age who has started their own garden and have miscellaneous animals on some land. We are excited to meet them and see how they have been able to start these homesteading practices for themselves. They also only primarily speak Spanish so it will be a great opportunity for further immersion into the beautiful Argentinian culture. We plan to be there around one month and not sure where the wind will take us after that!
A few days ago we left our sweet paradise in nature after over two months. It was full of so many activities and learnings that are hard to describe, but ultimately left us very thankful for how it has changed the both of us and our future path. It was definitely difficult to say goodbye to all our animals, the nature, and the people. Some highlights over the last few weeks have been getting to see all our beautiful garden babies grow slowly but surely, fixing a fence to keep the horses out of the neighbors property, completing a 36-hour fast, LOTS of meditation, and completing a big project for the recycling area. This last project was a blast for Connor and me! We got to build a fairly large structure from scratch, organized all the materials from around the property, and created signs for labeling each group of materials. We really got to see all that goes into planning and building something from nothing which was inspiring for us to think about all these skills we can use in our future.
We also had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with really great people the last week. We had a visit with the sweet neighbor Maria who showed us her mudhouse she was in process of building and helped her with various projects. She fed us lunch and then shared many things with us while sitting in a circle on the ground outside. We also were able to stay with a family we met through the campo while transitioning through Córdoba to our next location. It felt great to have made our first connection that offered us a place to stay or help whenever we needed. We drank mate and wine with them, ate dinner at 10:30pm, were given a tour of the city, and learned so much about Argentinian culture in a short amount of time. It is moments spent with people like this in what feels like the most random places or scenarios that is making our trip really special and meaningful.
It has been both a challenge and a blessing not having WiFi the last two months with only one spot with signal to use our phone. On one hand, it was difficult to not be able to google something new that we were learning about or a question we had right in that moment. It was not easy to plan much for future places/next steps, write/upload a blog post, and call/communicate with family and friends as easily or frequently. However, using technology became much more intentional. It was something we couldn't use everyday so things became priority when we did use it. It was a tool to connect with loved ones and to be able to stay up to date with miscellaneous emails/tasks. It really allowed us to be fully present in the activities we were doing and be fully immersed in the beautiful nature around us. We were able to turn inwards and focus on ourselves and each other so much more. It was a tough balance to strike between wanting to stay in connection with others and also experiencing a world where the focus isn't on technology. We are grateful for the experience of disconnecting and hope to bring some of this to our next location. We shall see what kind of signal/Wifi they have there!
Enjoy lots and lots of pictures from over the last month! We truly miss and love everyone so much. Until next time!
Con amor,
Abby y Connor
